Asbestos is a fibrous mineral that has been widely used in various building construction materials to strengthen products and provide insulation and fire resistance. When airborne, asbestos fibers can become trapped in our lungs, escalating the chances of acquiring cancer. What’s even more hazardous is extended exposure to asbestos-containing materials. But you can protect your home from the danger. Be guarded if you observe dissolution of fibers in your roofing materials, ceiling or vinyl floor tiles, or cement water pipes. Verify the original building plan of your home in order to know where asbestos is applied. Some designers use the abbreviation of asbestos, which is ASB. If you believe you might have asbestos, avoid touching it and get in touch with a licensed inspector who can eliminate the asbestos for you in order for you to have a safe home. Cleaning products and pesticides are household items which can also be dangerous in our homes. Poisoning, burns, or even blindness can result from misuse of these products. In order to avoid these, make sure that you keep cleaners and pesticides away from food items, but store them in a cool location. They should be placed in a locked cabinet in order to prevent children or pets from accessing them. When using these products, make sure the area is well-ventilated and you are wearing protective gear. Lead is another common toxic material in our homes. It can be found in paint, old water fixtures, and modern brass plumbing. Pregnant women and children should practice extreme caution since even the shortest exposure can cause development delays in children. Increased lead levels can add to the chances of having heart disease and cataracts in adults. To defend yourself and your family from exposure to lead, the best way possible is to hire a certified inspector. A contractor can deal with the hazard if lead is found in your home. As a safety measure, don't allow your kids to play in bare soil and cover any exposed areas of the yard with plants or grass. Also, call your water supplier to check that lead hasn't seeped into your water. It is advisable to use cold water for cooking as hot water may have high levels of lead. You can talk about...
