One of the first few things that I consider whenever I transfer to a new home is the plumbing. My family and I make it a point that all pipes and waterways are checked in order to find out if they are in good working condition. If needed, we even renovate and repair them until we are satisfied.

Transferring to a new home is exciting, but remember that there's a lot of hard work that need to be put in before you can relax. In a way, it's exciting as well because you have the opportunity to set your plumbing exactly the way you want it to be. Dealing with your home's plumbing before you settle down could allow you to avoid potentially problematic situations later on.

One of the first plumbing-related things that you have to look out for are the pipes. If the house that you are transferring to has been built before the year 1950, your house's plumbing might have been using lead pipes. This is a health hazard that can be avoided by changing your pipes altogether. This is also a good way for you to find out if there are any leaks in your pipe system, thus saving you hundreds or thousands of dollars in your water bill or in potential damages.

You could also take a look at the actual faucets. In my family, there's a habit of changing the faucets every time we move on to a new home. This ensures that the actual faucets where our water comes from are clean and hygienically used.

The layout of your bathroom is also taken into account during a plumbing survey. Look at the bathroom facilities that you have in place, replace them as needed or as desired (like how we personally change the faucets), and similarly, reorder your bathroom layout into something that is appealing to you.

When moving to a new home, it's important that you really feel at home and that you are at ease that you would avoid health hazards or leakage costs. Having a survey of your home's plumbing system is a positive step in this regard.
