We noticed that, quite recently, more and more light bulbs in our rented home are dying just weeks after they were initially bought. These light bulbs are not exactly the low-quality types because they lasted a long time in our old homes. We are confronted with the surprising truth after opening one of the lights and it flickered horribly, forcing me to turn it off immediately. Clearly, there was a problem with the home's electrical wiring and this cannot be further from the truth when we had the home inspected by an electrician. The electrician noted that the fuse used in the master switch was last replaced two decades ago! This could be telling just how poorly maintained the electrical wiring of the entire home is. Home electrical wiring can be a significant safety hazard. Fires have already broken out in the past due to faulty wiring so this should be taken seriously. Newer homes with newly fitted electrical wiring are relatively safe and compliant with new safety regulations, but older homes that have been left standing for decades may not have been well taken care of, as in the case of our own rented home. Having your home's electrical wiring inspected by qualified professionals at least once a year is recommended so that your home is at par with what is set by the current National Electrical Code. Complying with the NEC enhances the safety of your home from potential electrical hazards. The NEC sets minimum standards on almost everything related to electricity--from your home's sockets to the plumbing system that you use. It pays a lot to keep yourself updated with these standards. Risks of fire breaking out due to faulty wiring are minimized. Sure, it will really cost you some money, and it is not a very handsome thought especially these uncertain times.
