The evaporator is the large aluminum and copper panel inside an air conditioner (for window types, the part that looks like a car radiator). It is the part that does the cooling. Smaller dust particles that passes through filter can build up in this part, or when the filter is really full of dirt. You don't want this, the trick is using a soft brush or an old toothbrush to take out the dust and lint. Do the brush carefully to prevent the metal fins from being deformed.

And when all parts are cleaned, you can assemble the unit back. Put the filter back into the front grille, and grille back into your unit. You should notice a difference in the cooling performance of your unit to give a cleaner and fresher glow. Keeping you area keep and dust-free as possible is also one way of maintaining you air-con, so no or less dust will be sucked by the unit.
