While most still have a hang-over with the New Year's eve party, we in our household spent the first couple of days in fixing for the new year, and re-organizing our house. The new year is the perfect timing to re-think and redesign. We didn't make any major rebuffs but we made sure that everything we did will be for the better and add a little bang to our small home.

First stop is our fence. We decided to have more tropical look from the inside and outside, more like of a tiki look. My wife and I decided to go for a bambo fence. This made our little garden to more relaxing like what you see and feel on zen gardens. With a finish and protection, you bamboo fence could last for years. Using bamboo as a material for your fence is ecolomical and ecological. They grow a lot faster than trees and cost less than timber. You can also use bamboo differently in making exterior and interior designs.

Second is re-arranging our pot garden. We decided to re-pot some of the leafy ornamentals. We added a bunch of flowering plant and now we see bees and butterflies visiting our garden every day. In re-potting plant, don't forgent to fertilize the soil. Re-potting is also for loosing the compacted roots of your plants when the need a larger space, it's like a hermit crab looking for a new shell.

Repainting have also been a part of our home improvements for the start of the year. We wanted to add shades of the color of the year which is honeysuckle or something close to that. If you're having trouble mixing your paint, you can purchase pre-mixed paints on most paint stores.

Making new spaces for storage for the new stuff like display and hanging cabinets and new cupboard is a must for our tightly spaced home. If you want a new look for you home you can always do the re-organization at anytime of the year. Doing things yourself can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars instead calling your contractor for a quote.
